A tree plantation campaign was organized at Karakoram International University (KIU) in collaboration with the Gilgit Forest Department, reinforcing the university’s commitment to environmental sustainability. Distinguished guests, including Conservator of Forests Gilgit Aftab Mehmood and DFO Imran Ahmed, provided plants for KIU as part of this initiative. A ceremony was held at the Department of Forestry, attended by Senior Director QEC Dr. Abdul Razzaq, Chairman of the Department of Biological Sciences Dr. Sher Wali, Provost Dr. Qamar Abbas, Chairman of the Forestry Department Dr. Zafar Khan, faculty members, administrative officials, and students. Speaking at the event, Chief Guest Dr. Abdul Razzaq emphasized the importance of tree plantation, stating that afforestation is essential not only for environmental conservation but also for securing a sustainable future for generations to come. Conservator Aftab Mehmood, Dr. Zafar Khan, Dr. Sher Wali, and other speakers also highlighted the role of trees in combating climate change and enhancing ecological balance. Following the speeches, the guests formally inaugurated the tree plantation drive, with enthusiastic participation from faculty and students. Participants acknowledged the initiative as a vital step toward environmental awareness and expressed their hope for the continuation of such activities in the future. The KIU Provost Office and the Department of Forestry played a key role in facilitating this meaningful campaign.
