The Green Youth Movement (GYM) at Karakoram International University operates under the Office of the Provost and is dedicated to promoting environmental awareness, sustainability, and beautification through active student engagement. The society aims to transform the university into a model of environmental conservation by implementing green initiatives, landscaping projects, and student-led plantation drives. GYM also fosters a culture of responsibility and awareness about the importance of protecting and preserving nature for future generations.
Objectives
- Promote Environmental Awareness: Educate students about the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable practices.
- Beautification through Plantation: Enhance the aesthetic appeal of the university through green landscaping and plantation drives.
- Engage Students in Eco-Friendly Practices: Encourage active participation in activities that promote sustainability and eco-consciousness.
- Conserve Nature and Biodiversity: Advocate for the preservation of natural resources and biodiversity on campus.

Activities
The society undertakes a variety of activities to achieve its objectives:
1. Green Initiatives and Projects
- Campus-wide Plantation Drives: Organize regular tree-planting campaigns across the university.
- Green Landscaping: Design and maintain green spaces, gardens, and aesthetic landscapes within the campus.
- Waste Management: Promote eco-friendly waste disposal and recycling practices.
2. Awareness Campaigns
- Host awareness sessions on the importance of plantation, biodiversity, and combating climate change.
- Conduct workshops and seminars to teach students sustainable practices and landscaping techniques.
3. Student Engagement
- Form student teams to take responsibility for maintaining green spaces in their respective areas.
- Organize competitions (e.g., “Best Maintained Green Area”) to motivate students to participate actively.
4. Collaboration and Advocacy
- Partner with local and national organizations working in the field of environmental conservation.
- Advocate for green policies within the university and collaborate with faculty to integrate sustainability into academic discussions.
Membership & Recruitment
The society invites all environmentally conscious students to join and contribute to making KIU a greener, more sustainable campus. Recruitment drives are held annually, and all members undergo basic training in plantation and landscaping practices.
